Effect on American Society

There was a lot of different things that came about because of what happened that day. The good things brought on by the United States declaring war on Japan and the rest of the Axis power included a lot. The major one was that it led to the complete end of the Great Depression. Thousands of jobs were created to help with the supplies that were needed in the war. Also may soldiers were drafted into the war creating a benefit and another salary that went to the families in the United States. The unemployment was almost completely deminished at the start of the war. Also money was no longer a major issue in the everyday household. Many Americans moved north and towards the mid-west for the more high-paying jobs. All the others mainly moved towards the coast line to work in the shipyards. There was a lot of production more towards the beginning of the war. The agriculture production was especially high. All the families and business people supported the U.S. troops through propaganda and advertisement. To help with the Lend-Lease Act food, gasoline, tires, and other necessities were rationed. The minorities also benefited from the war. Although they faced discrimination they were able to get jobs in infantry, tanks, and air force units.
